The National Petroleum Authority identified a critical challenge: 94% of rural households in Ghana relied on polluting fuels like firewood and charcoal for cooking. Nationwide, only 22% of households used Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), a cleaner, safer, and more environmentally friendly alternative.
We positioned LPG as the ultimate cooking solution, emphasising its clean, efficient, and smokeless benefits. Through a comprehensive awareness campaign, we highlighted the dangers of polluting fuels, promoted LPG’s safety features, and underscored its environmental benefits in reducing emissions and deforestation. The campaign employed impactful storytelling to illustrate the health dangers of firewood and charcoal smoke on individuals and their families, encouraging behaviour change through relatable narratives.
The strategy aimed to increase access to safe, clean, and environmentally friendly LPG for at least 50% of Ghanaians by 2030.
Activities Included:
Significantly improved public awareness of the health risks of charcoal and wood smoke, including respiratory diseases, increased heart risks, and eye irritation.
Encouraged widespread adoption of LPG, enabling Ghanaians to enjoy a more comfortable and healthier cooking experience.
Strengthened appreciation for LPG’s role in improving household health, reducing environmental harm, and enhancing quality of life.
Increased emotional engagement and behaviour change through storytelling, making the campaign more relatable and impactful.
